Cranioplasty recovery story: A young athlete's journey to recovery from TBI with Meticuly’s Titanium Cranial Mesh Implant

Updated: Oct 2

A cranioplasty recovery story

After 25 years of dedication, Mr. Bas’s athletic journey came to a halt. While travelling for a competition as a young provincial athlete, his life took an unexpected turn. Three years ago, a devastating car accident left him with a fractured skull and an intracranial haemorrhage, requiring an immediate open-skull operation.

An intracranial haemorrhage, also known as a brain haemorrhage or brain bleed, is a traumatic brain injury where blood accumulates in the brain tissue or the spaces surrounding the brain. This accumulation of blood exerts pressure on the brain which prevents the vital supply of oxygen and nutrients to the intricate structures of the brain. Due to the life-threatening danger of this injury, a decompressive craniectomy is often performed to relieve pressure and prevent any further damage to brain tissue and functions. During a craniectomy, a section of the skull is surgically removed and left open until the swelling has gone down.

Mr. Bas revealed that although his life-saving brain surgery took place at the nearest hospital relative to the accident scene, the life he was given back carried the aftereffects of the operation. After an intensive journey of healing and recovery, a dented section of his skull remained from the craniectomy, restricting him from getting back to his normal life. Insecure about the state of his skull, Mr. Bas decided to consult his doctor again. The doctor advised him to undergo a cranial reconstruction surgery, also known as cranioplasty, using Meticuly’s cranial implant.

Two years have passed since Mr. Bas’s cranioplasty, and we now have the opportunity to share his extraordinary experience with our METICULY patient-specific cranial mesh implant. In our recent interview, we explored the impact of the cranial implant two years post-operation.

Choosing the path with Meticuly’s cranial implant

After consulting with his surgeon and researching online, Mr. Bas mentioned, “Meticuly had revolutionised advancements in cranial implants and offered an unmatched durability with its use of long-lasting materials.” After learning about other patient stories and testimonials, Mr. Bas and his family had no doubts about using our Meticuly cranial mesh implant.

“A top-notch cranial implant for a lifetime.” said Mr. Bas’s family.

Two years after the cranial implant surgery

Despite the postoperative pain, Mr. Bas eventually found relief, remarking, “It feels just like my own skull when I touch my head!” Despite having undergone craniectomy and cranioplasty, he is able to exercise normally. He does not experience discomfort or cold sensations in his head, even in cooler temperatures. Despite the challenges he faced after the accident, Meticuly’s cranial mesh implant enabled him to resume a fulfilling life.
